Nomination for President Teacher’s Award
2009

My form teacher is Mr Ravintharan S/o Palanisamy who is also known as Mr Ravin (inshort). Although he has been my form teacher for 11 weeks so far, he has demonstrated manifold values such as the three school core values namely Respect, Responsibility and Resilience. As a student, I felt honored to have a form teacher who is very committed to his job being a teacher and dedicating towards his students. Apart from the three above stated values, he has also shown several characteristics ofservant leadership such as listening and empathy when dealing with students.

When it comes to listening, he has a deep commitment to listening intently pertaining to family issues or studies and so forth. For example, when a student comes up to him to share a particular problem, he never fails to listen and give solutions to the problems coupled with regular periods of reflection which he believes is essential in a student to identify his/her strengths and weaknesses. Empathy comes into the picture as I find that Mr Ravin has the ability to make use of a student’s strength to achieve their goals and not picking out on their weaknesses to push them in order to strive their goals. He believes that people need to be accepted and recognized for their special and unique spirits. For example, he would compliment job well done when he knows a student has put in tremendous efforts to do well in studies. However, he would still lay out some
of the student’s weaknesses so that he/she can improve on it, step by step towards excellence.

Mr Ravin is also well known for being a teacher-advisor; a fast growing niche in the Robotics Team. Without him, the Robotics team couldn’t have done any better by getting champions in majority of the competitions that the Team took part. As a form teacher and teacher-advisor in the Robotics team, he goes thick and thin with the students and motivating us by aspiring to aim for the best and inspiring us with positive quotes to keep the flame alive in order for us to go all out and do our best.

In my opinion, Mr Ravin deserves to get the Award because he has been showing outstanding attitude in his career, serving students with the knowledge he receives and years of committing to the school as a teacher. I hope to see Mr Ravin continuing his great effort being a form teacher throughout the year. Afterall, as an eagle we don’t just fly but we fly high.

Love, ABJ
